Energy, natural resources and infrastructure
Rodriguez & Cavelier understands Colombia’s great wealth in natural resources and the huge potential for the development of mining, energy and infrastructure projects, and has made available to its clients and the country its long and successful career in this practice area.
In the energy sector the Firm has participated in projects involving the legal structuring of the transfer of State owned assets used for the generation of electrical power, such as Cedelca in Cauca, and APL in San Andres Islands. We have also advised the private sector in different projects such as Termotasajero and the recent sale of various power companies.
Our experience in the hydrocarbons sector includes the legal assistance to private entities in several public bids granting oil blocks, and the assistance to our clients in all legal aspects related with the performance of different contracts with the Hidrocarbon National Agency.
Regarding biofuels, we participated in the drafting of the Ethanol law which made said projects feasible, and have advised the legal structuring of several of these projects, such as Biodiesel and Bioenergy.
Rodriguez & Cavelier has participated in some of the largest mining projects, in matters such as public bids, negotiation of concession contracts, obtaining of environmental permits and licenses, study and acquisition of land, easements negotiation, prior consultations with the aborigins and Afro-American communities, and in general, providing a thorough legal advise in mining projects as from their inception until their dismantelling.
We have advised in the legal planning, design, negotiation, structuring and development of El Cerrejón as well as in mines of different minerals in the Provinces of Cesar, Santander, Antioquia and Chocó.
Regarding infrastructure, we have also been involved in the drafting, negotiation, and performance of concession contracts related to ports, rail and road transportation, and construction and assembly contracts related with the mining sector.
